Good news for Scottish gardeners - I found the wasp Lemaphagus errabundus - biocontrol of the dreaded Lily beetle, Liliocerus lilii. Several individuals at Culloden resting on infested lilies. Checking NBN shows this is a very long way north of the nearest records in s. England.

Our four acre field is split into three habitats. Wetland woodland, traditional wildflower hay meadow, unimproved pasture. Here's what I've learned from working on, maintaining and creating all three. A thread ..

I found what appeared to be arachnid(?) egg sacs on the undersides of both Elder and Sycamore leaves infected with some sort of smut-like fungus. Anyone seen anything like this before? British Mycological Society BAS 𝓐𝓷𝓭𝓻𝓮𝔀 𝓟𝓵𝓪𝓽𝓽 #TwitterNatureCommunity

On a stem of grass at Magdalen Hill Down, a pair of Malachite Beetles. Apparently, the female finds the pheromones secreted at the base of the male’s antennae absolutely irresistible. #beetles Butterfly Conservation 🦋

On #WorldEnvironmentDay‌ we remember the late Dr Bernard Stonehouse (1926-2014) of Scott Polar Research Institute who used our whaling log books to study sea ice to better understand the history of climate change. Archival research is important for so many reasons. Archive Hashtag Hull Maritime

It is an alien world.. Brachiolaria talks to tornaria barrel-shaped larvae of hemichordates. Zooplankton of the North Sea. Tornaria size is about 1 mm.

Possibly 1st record of fruiting Ivy-leaved Duckweed (Leman trisulca) in the UK. Fir & Ponds Wood, Herts, in a mixed sample with L. minor. It is a bit ragged, but the teeth of the L. trisulca on fronds can be made out. Probably due to climate warming.

They’re on the move! We’ve had several photos of terrapins wandering on land in the last four weeks. We’d expect this with females possibly looking to nest so not unusual. #rehomenotrelease #education #pond #public #terrapin #turtle #herpetology #pet #reptile

This small beetle, c 2 mm long, has been identified as Rhyzobius lophanthae on iNaturalist. Would you agree Helen Roy ? Found East Yorkshire, yesterday.
