Brings together [ATIII + thrombin], Xa

Results in inhibition of thrombin, Xa

Heparin resistance = ATIII deficiency
Inherited or acquired (after aspariginase)
No ATIII = Heparin can't inhabit thrombin!

How Heparin Got its Name

Jay McLean
A 2nd year medical student at Hopkins extracted compounds from dog livers that had anticoagulant properties in vitro and produced excessive bleeding when given to animals.

The name 'heparin' was chosen as it is derived from Greek for 'liver'.

Aaron Goodman - “Papa Heme” There are many important voices that contribute to science and patient care, most of whom are not clinical trialists.

This is an unfortunate take that is ad hominem and also untrue- since both you and I are actually running trials, including RCTs.

I never understood this take. So community oncologists who do the vast bulk of oncology care in the world and who have a good idea what their patients want have no say in randomized trials??? I guess leave it to the KOLs who travel weekly while others cover clinical care.
