A slightly more depressing interpretation of this is that people trust 'someone like them' just as much as they trust scientists. That seems to be where social media echo chambers etc are so pervasive & damaging....

Sauron had a lot of problems, but he knew how to manage a wetland. The Dead Marshes were one of the environmental gems of Mordor, and an impressive nature-based solution to help remediate the environmental damage caused by the corpse issue after the Battle of Dagorlad

I doubt that the MPs who spoke in support of this Bill actually care about the impact of it sadly...
We live in a world where facts seldom matter and where crowd pleasing is more important than consequences.

Can I suggest a new law of social media? Any time someone announces “the reality is” you can be sure that what they’re about to claim has virtually nothing to do with reality.

I'm exhausted, I mean happy, to say I've completed the 5th ed. of my Croc Digest bibliography of publications on human-crocodilian interactions worldwide. It is 16pp longer than the previous 2022 edition so thanks croc authors (no, really)! Free to you at

Increasing posts in my TL supporting conspiracy theory that the current weather pattern is a government engineered attempt to cause a food shortage. And thence 'centralise production'. Apparently, it's all being done by planes cloud seeding.

I always like to read about Michael Palin.

One of my favourite things was on Christmas morning the BBC would put on repeats of his travel series and it was a perfect way to chill out before the madness of Christmas dinner came along later in the day. theguardian.com/culture/2024/a…

It's amusing to see how popular culture has exaggerated the danger posed by sharks, when in fact, they play a crucial role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Over 500 species & vast majority of shark species are not a threat to humans.

If you are in your 30/40's and went paddling in the sea as child in the 90's there was at least 3x as much sewage in the sea as today.

If you went in the sea in the 70s or 80s it was likely 5x higher, but nobody was really looking.

Btw if hyena conservation is up your alley, this is a great time to donate to the Humans and Hyenas Alliance. We need a new field vehicle to help with our collaring/tracking efforts and community engagement. If you can't donate, a share helps!❤️🍪

I'm often told by Activists wanting a Trophy Hunting Ban that photo tourism is the solution.

Great to see highlighting the problem with photo tourism.

Poorly regulated photo & hunting tourism costs animal lives when well regulated both can increase wildlife numbers.
