The closure by HSE Ireland of A&E Depts at Ennis & Nenagh caused chaos in Limerick. Price now being paid in Mid West. HSE Ireland in 2012 proposed closure of A&E in Portlaoise. I was pleased to take a strong stance against closure while being derided as ‘parish pump’ in national media.

Day 2 of my astronomical trip took me to Birr Castle in the midlands of Ireland, where I saw the Great Telescope (sometimes called the “Leviathan”). Dating from 1845, this was the world’s largest telescope for over 70 years! Much still remains intact. #heritage
