Pleased to finally get a decent photo of White-cheeked Honeyeater near Port Macquarie this afternoon, whilst on yet another unsuccessful hunt for Glossy-black Cockatoo. One of Australias smartest Honeyeaters in my opinion.

I used a very tall tripod to achieve this unique angle and waited patiently for the perfect moment.

Two spots have become available for tomorrow which is great for beginners and those that want to delve into night photography.

It’s not just the Great Barrier Reef. Climate change is devastating reefs around the world. I grew up seeing Mussismilia hartii, a very unique species only found in Brazil, and now they are all bleaching. So, so sad. 😞 🎥 Pedro Henrique

🚨WHAT CLIMATE CHANGE LOOKS LIKE🚨

It's been the driest 6 months EVER in South West WA

Images by Piers Verstegen at Mt Mehniup where used to have one of the highest rainfalls

Majority of vegetation is now dead on north facing side, including mature trees there for many decades

Occasionally encountered these chooks during fieldwork in Oaxaca. Heard them almost daily. Such cool animals, with so much cryptic diversity; nicely echoing the mountain-tops where they dwell.

Heard my first Blackcap singing not long after sun-up today, fresh in from North Africa. Liquid-metal notes, amid the glitter-chaff of the Goldfinches.
A real heart-lifter. They back with you yet?

Good news from folk who walked the Cascade Trail which just re-opened after March feral animal control: no signs of feral horses, deer or pigs where in previous years they regularly saw piles of horse manure.
Trail-side grasses long & healthy.
Anecdotal, but an encouraging sign.

Someone in my lab referred to a paper from 1984 as “semi-ancient.” In unrelated news, we have an unexpected opening for a postdoc.
