I've spent a long time resisting the idea of a central role for TEs to the evolution of complexity. Sure, they've contributed to some important innovations, like adaptive immunity, placental development, light responsiveness in plants and a whole bunch of transcription factors.

Great to see this out! Vikash Chandra and Hazem Ibrahim were able to pinpoint a specific role for TYK2 in controlling the endocrine progenitor cell cycle. Collaborative effort within INNODIA supports the use of TYK2 inhibitors for T1D prevention. rdcu.be/cYkB2

Oocytes rely on maternal mRNAs for development into healthy eggs. But where and how are these mRNAs stored?

Our latest work in Science Magazine shows that mammalian oocytes store mRNAs in a mitochondria-associated membraneless compartment (MARDO). bit.ly/3MNQSf1 (1/9)

Why can't I develop into a Darwinian demon like I desperately want to? Because evolutionary trade-offs prevent me from optimizing all traits simultaneously. Our story looking at trade-offs of immunity is now out in Science Magazine.

New preprint from the lab!
Using the STEM CELL ZOO, we recapitulated the SEGMENTATION CLOCKS of SIX mammals: mouse, marmoset, rabbit, human, cow & rhinoceros!
With the power of 6 species, we found several scaling laws of the segmentation clock periods.
