This is a blatant misrepresentation of our work science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…. Our study does not in any way suggest that the application of SPF50 sunscreen “blocks our natural defences” or is detrimental to health.

Love this story. War office accidentally summoned experts in cryptogams (algae) rather than cryptograms (encrypted text). Confused botanists turn up & dutifully serve out the war at Bletchley Park.

With spreading amongst dairy cows, one of the most important things to think about right now is what would need to happen for this virus to actually start a pandemic.

I’ve understood this correctly, it seems to be suggesting that the thing people are doing for a perceived benefit doesn’t necessarily have that benefit. But it has a different benefit, so it’s fine to let them believe it?

9/We found that a greater degree of protection from infection was seen with increasing numbers of prior infections. Interestingly, immunity from one prior infection only protected against Delta, with two prior infections required to provide any protection against Omicron BA.1.

7/Amazingly, 84% of PCR-positive infections were asymptomatic. This is much higher than estimates for the UK, or other HICs, but is remarkably consistent with findings from South Africa’s excellent PHIRST-C study (85% asymptomatic). thelancet.com/journals/lanin…

6/Attack rates of 45% and 57% were seen during Delta and Omicron BA.1 waves respectively. The high rates of Omicron infections were despite 84.2% seropositivity prior to BA.1 arriving in The Gambia.

Abdullah Abdelaziz Block what you can randomise what you can't. Balance is a matter of efficiency not of validity. Validity is a question of appropriate conditioning. See onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.100…

Tim Cook I think the ad would work much better if it was reversed. All the objects should be expanding out of the iPad rather than being crushed into it

made this edited version in five minutes (thanks iMovie!)
