Can’t believe how quickly this generation of college students went from being characterized as lazy, unmotivated and unprepared to accomplish anything to a posing such a threat to their elders that they must be subdued by snipers and cops with cuffs and clubs.

Anytime students break out of the 'customer' role that financialized universities expect them to passively inhabit, they have to be policed - indeed, violently - back into what administrators consider their proper place.

Nothing says ‘I support viewpoint diversity on college campuses’ like sending in the police. Almost like protecting power, hierarchy, exclusion, & violence was the point of ‘viewpoint diversity’ arguments this whole time…

Faculty getting arrested to protect their students is far more important and valuable than anything their academic colleagues will ever accomplish professionally—publications, books, tenure etc.

academia attempts to kill every piece of your desire to be creative, imaginative, and deal with the messiness of human life. it really just makes you get to a point where you write bullshit articles so you can keep getting a paycheck.

Let me just say: When you're a professor, you can close ranks with powerful professors, politicians and celebrities, or you can close ranks with adjuncts, students and people who are struggling. And your life will be much richer when you do the latter.
