Another positive climate decision today: D.C. Circuit upholds California's ability to set strong emissions standards for automobiles; rejects efforts by fossil fuel industry and red states to strike down EPA's 'California waiver'. The decision: bit.ly/3PUFAIE

Good morning with good news: Maryland becomes first state to require utilities to enable EVs to supply the grid, not just homes. Bidirectional EV charging pilot programs also must be started!

MD's law also boosts VPPs & time of use power pricing for EVs.

NOAA has published its first estimate of the growth in global-average CO₂ concentration for 2023, at +2.81 ppm. GlobalCarbonProject's forecast was 2.4 ppm, the average of a time-series analysis giving 2.39 and an ESM multi-model mean giving 2.41. Let's unpack this.

Wonderful: Booming demand for large heat pumps.

Why? End dependence on Russian gas & decarbonization.

'Siemens recently struck a deal with Heineken to supply 15 large heat pumps for its breweries by 2025.'

Turboden’s Finnish customer is slashing its use of Russian gas.

Good morning with good news: Solar may be USA's largest source of electricity by 2035! That new energy world is not a pipe dream.

26% solar CAGR from 2023-2028 is possible and would get solar to ~900 billion kilowatt-hours by 2028. Solar will generate more than hydro in 2024.

Hmmm...US electricity demand barely grew since 2005, even as Data Centers grew to ~18GW of demand by 2023!

Mckinsey says Data Centers will add ~17GW by 2030. That barely moves national demand. Also, US will add 51 GW of capacity in 2024! Data Center growth is easily manageable.

Crazy statistic I learned today, 94% of the railway network in India is now electrified, nearly all of it done in the last 10 years.

UK, only 38% rail network is electrified. EU 56%.
