I don’t think Americans understand the extent to which the “foreign-intelligence exception” has hollowed out the Fourth Amendment. Most reporting about the current legislative debate is technical and incremental, and misses the forest for the trees. 1/

I love this kind of journalism because it helps ever-so-slightly correct the problem of VCs benefiting from startups that do harmful things knowing that they themselves won't suffer reputational (or any other) consequences.

It was such an honor to be part of Ida Bae Wells’ Democracy Summit at Howard University yesterday. Feeling fired up after a day of phenomenal speakers and one of my favorite AI panels I’ve been on with Nabiha Syed Khari Johnson and Errin Haines 😷🧼🧴💉.

You know what's most striking about this graphic? It's not that mentions of people/cities/etc from different continents cluster together in terms of word co-occurrences. It's just how sparse the data from the Global South are.

Someone recently pointed out to me that California privacy law requires companies to report consumer data requests.

Clearview started keeping track in 2021. Over 2 years, fewer than 1000 people (out of 34 mil Californians) asked to delete their face from Clearview's database.

This investigation is wild - in the one city they could get the data for, it turns out PredPol was correct only ~1% (!!) of the time.

It literally enrages me how rampant this kind of dysfunctional 'AI' technology is. What a dangerous waste of money.
