There’s definitely an ‘end of season’ feeling in the air now, but still a few of our birds yet to fledge. Lovely views of two 8 day old ringed plover chicks this morning, feeding out on the mudflats. The remaining little tern chicks are starting to flap their wings- not long now!

Delighted to hear that this micro came back as Caloptilia Hemidactylella. A seriously rare UK moth and first record for Lincolnshire, trapped at Gibraltar Point NNR overnight 5-6th August. Outside of its flight time too. A proper mega! Lincs Wildlife Trust LWT Wild News #mothsmatter

With the season now almost at an end, the sanctuary has fledged 25 ringed plovers, 23 little terns and at least 3 oystercatchers! A great year, with at least 12 more fledged ringed plovers from the Greenshanks Creek area of the reserve.

Personal totals at Gibraltar Point Bird Observatory today included Wryneck, 24 Pied Fly, 18 Redstart, 13 Whinchat, Spot Fly and Tripit as well as 24 Spoonbills on the lagoons. A real treat to have Redstart and Pied Fly using the pond we revamped last week too. A day for the history books.

Last night was mental. 1231/79 in my trap here at Gibraltar Point included a record 3 P. Vitrealis, also 65 White Point and 364 SHC. Still waiting for the big ones, but can’t complain at the sheer numbers at the moment. My second ever Antler a highlight. #teammoth #mothsmatter

Beware the man with the butter tubs! A decent trap night again last night here at Gibraltar Point has been massively out-shadowed by me finding 2 Convolvulous Hawkmoths in the beach! Insane! #teammoth #mothsmatter

Not content with ‘just’ the 2 Convov this morning, I went again this afternoon… 6!!! Convolvulus Hawkmoth perched around the reserve here at Gibraltar Point, surely a site record. The one on the branch particularly well hidden. Each individual below. Greedy, perhaps? #teammoth
