Saddened to hear this news. David Dollar was an exceptional scholar of the Chinese economy and also a wonderful and kind colleague at Brookings Foreign Policy. He will be missed.
Today is my last day as DoD Policy. I first got to know Secretary Austin more than a decade ago (see the picture on the left of us in Baghdad in 2011). It's been the honor of a lifetime to serve with him again, alongside the extraordinary men and women of OSD Policy.
Kemal was a kind & brilliant colleague & an exemplary public servant. I fondly remember working with him at The Brookings Institution on the Eurocrisis. He taught us all a great deal and he will be missed.

Major news from Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III Austin’s visits in Manila today, where the U.S. and the Philippines have just announced plans to designate four new Agreed Locations under the EDCA — a key pillar of the U.S.-Philippines alliance that’s now growing even stronger. defense.gov/News/Releases/…
Deeply saddened to hear of Blake Hounshell’s untimely passing. Blake couldn’t have been nicer and more helpful when he accepted and edited my pieces early in my career. He was a terrific reporter, all round decent person, & will be sorely missed. thedailybeast.com/new-york-times…
