This is excellent, and I really hope we see these recommendations put into action, not just at the BBC but more broadly

OK now it's clear Sadiq Khan has won a third term, a few thoughts.

First, Susan Hall was a terrible candidate. She'd have made a terrible mayor, but in addition she too right wing, too implausible and too nuts to win in London. This election was winnable, but not by her.

Unsurprisingly, Edward Luce's take on the campus protests is by some distance the best and most sophisticated I have read.

Thanks to Trades Union Congress for this compilation - people have always reckoned that others are workshy. (Tip, if you can't find enough workers, raise wages, or mechanise. There is no third option). 1/2

New: Many of London's post-war housing estates are damp, cramped, and cold. But, it's possible to fix that and cut London's housing shortage.

Here's how an estate renewal revolution can build half a million homes and cut London’s emissions

Hard as it is to believe when reading the news, the homicide rate in London has *halved* over the past 20 years.

In the past two decades London has gained 1.7 million extra residents and yet the annual number of homicides has gone down from 212 in 2003 to 110 in 2023.
