Beautiful spirals of.... poop?! This acorn worm (Tergivelum baldwinae) crawls over the surface of the mud, ingesting sediment, and leaving behind a sinuous “fecal trail”. More on the amazing #deepsea animals MBARI researchers have discovered: ow.ly/Xpv030ovPFk

Strawberry spaghetti worms in the UK have always been identified as Eupolymnia nebulosa but recent research indicates more species to be present. The long gill stems, among other features, places these animals collected from Scotland as Eupolymnia gili instead #WormWednesday

Today’s #WormWednesday post is crayfish worms. Can you see the branchiobdellidans covering this crayfish? The relationship between crayfish and branchiobdellidans can vary from mutualism, to commensalism and parasitism

#wormwednesday The original authors gave it the lovely name of a colleague & regarded Pseudopolydora rosebela as "among the most beautiful spionids ever seen". New molecular work on this species & related taxa, plus a n.sp. from Radashevsky et al. marinespecies.org/polychaeta/aph…

#wormwednesday Yes, it's obv S. spallanzanii - with its extra long tube, spiral fan, & dizzyingly complex name history. From Viviani 1805, v obscure, v odd, totally in Latin, where he creates genus Spirographis & observes marine worm 'phosphorescence' marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=so…

#Wormwednesday Why did Ashworth call the genus A-Sclero-Cheilus (cf existing Sclerocheilus = 'hard lips'). We have no idea☹️. Article with 2 new Brazilian Asclerocheilus is inducted into WoRMS. marinespecies.org/polychaeta/aph…

Just missing #WormWednesday, an interesting article in the The Guardian about marine bristle worms and their importance from Dr Ceri Lewis. They are amazing and wonderous animals and we are lucky to have two scientists Amgueddfa Cymru | Museum Wales who study them theguardian.com/environment/ar…

Tragic death of talented biologist Stephen Thorpe, of Auckland NZ, a unique personality. Read tributes on iNaturalist here: inaturalist.nz/projects/falle… Stephen even id'd seaworms on occasion - accurately too.
