Absolutely chilling story out of UNC this morning, where uni admin is recording faculty in the classroom without their consent or even notice.

I had two goals as an editor: 1) encourage the submission of qualitative research and 2) give sexuality focused manuscripts a fair read & appropriate reviewers, something that research (not to mention personal experience) tells us does not always happen at generalist journals.

Terrible. Vouchers are education’s predatory lending.

Setting aside that 3/4 voucher users were already in private school—and those schools reject anyone they want—vouchers devastate learning for the kids who do switch.

Worse than what COVID-19 and Katrina did to academics.

Notice that many states subsidizing private school tuition for affluent families via ESAs have shamefully high child poverty rates. There are far better uses of your state's general fund than writing checks to the already fortunate.

I’ve got to address this common argument that is completely false. It’s not just “their” tax money. If most parents could self-fund quality education, then public schools would not need to exist. But most parents chip in a small amount in taxes that is added together with the

School choice is the wrong term here because what is the choice for the families who want to stay in the public schools that are now being forced to close because the governor is handing public money to private schools. This hyper-individualism is destroying the democratic fabric

Amid the horror, grief, and rage of these days—as oppressors and systems persist in their violent assault on human life and dignity--Sarah Mayorga and I have written a book that is a love letter to those who resist oppression and fight for their dignity.

Two inarguable features of voucher evidence:

The past decade led to some of the largest academic declines ever seen on any education topic.

And most of today’s voucher users were never in public school.

I’m glad those results are reaching the level of The New Yorker coverage.

The costs have been high (well beyond expectations nepc.colorado.edu/review/calcula…) & the outcomes (when measured) dismal. The long run educational (social, cultural, civic) & economic damages of these policies will be immeasurable.

Opinion | There is no problem with a Supreme Court Justice flying an insurrectionist Trump flag while presiding over a case that will decide an election. Here’s why every college student who waves a Palestinian flag should be expelled.

You don’t need the right to protest in the streets when you have the mayor on speed dial, can pay private investigators to spy on students, and have unlimited media access washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/05…

Today’s student movement against the Gaza War is far smaller and much less disruptive than the campus antiwar protests of the 1960s. So why has it drawn such an aggressive response?

This made me cry because I’m watching her scream what’s in my heart. This is madness. Students are paying the price, police budgets could solve the debt crisis. We fund genocide rather than funding our kids. Thank you Dr. Tiffany Willoughby-Herard ❤️🇵🇸
