It is v upsetting seeing the quality of argument on display here. So many suffered on the basis of the IPC cells outputs; both patients and staff. As one example to say airborne skin scales = contact route. So disappointing.

Cat in the Hat 🐈‍⬛ 🎩 🇬🇧 The problem with dogma is that it takes a long time to change. What makes it worse is that it takes so little evidence to create a belief, and a moutain of evidence to change opinions once that belief takes hold.

I think this must be THE most awkward moment of the Covid Inquiry so far. I’ve dubbed it ‘The Long Pause’. I’d love to know what was going on in Dr Ritchie’s head here. I’d like to think she had a moment of reflection of how many lives were lost due to her flawed IPC guidance.

Wow! Watch this 47sec clip from UK Covid inquiry and you will understand how they became known as 'plague island' and remember this is recorded in 2024, not 2020 (not that that should be an excuse anyhow). This is the Head IPC NHS England IPC fail. Massive fail. #COVIDisAirborne

Why does the Chief Medical Advisor UK Health Security Agency Prof. Susan Hopkins (Susan Hopkins), testifying today UK Covid-19 Inquiry, "forget" about the important early evidence of airborne transmission in China, like the studies previously mentioned by Prof. David Heymann?

Over the last 2 days at UK Covid-19 Inquiry the NHS has shown its dark & ugly side There was never going to be an apology from IPC guidance authors whose guidance drove disproportionately high rates of death & COVID19 in non-ICU HCWs & huge rates of nosocomial SARS2, but… /1

Cue Susan Hopkins, Deputy Director of National Infectious Disease Service at PHE, 2020 What did we learn? ❌ Transparency/basic science failure 1 Prof Hopkins refused to define what *she* meant by droplet v aerosol /8

The colonoscopy prep regimens are impressive. But have they been tested in double blinded placebo control trials? Where is the individual patient level Cochrane meta-analysis of these interventions that make people put out a number 1 from the number 2 orifice? We need RCTs!

For the life of me, despite practicing Infectious Diseases & Medical Microbiology for 40 years, I cannot comprehend the stubborn unwillingness of colleagues to simply acknowledge that COVID is airborne. The scientific data is now so overwhelmingly convincing. The debate is over.

No matter how many hours we’ve spent discussing the horrendous UK response to the pandemic, when I read David’s work I always learn something new 🚨MUST READ Thank you David Osborn pslhub.org/learn/coronavi…

READ THIS THREAD by infection control *expert* who is apoplectic about the ignorance displayed by IPC “leaders” at the UK covid inquiry.

I'd add that, for many of us, such policies significantly eroded confidence in public health and healthcare. Demanding people in N95s switch to surgicals was proof that they didn't know how N95s worked or how COVID spread, and *that they refused to learn*. #CanadaCOVIDInquiryNow
